    Registration of Trade Dispute [Changes in Districts]

    The Executive Committee of the Malta Police Union today registered an Industrial Dispute against the Commissioner of Police.

    Summary of the issue;

    The Commissioner of Police decided to change the composition of all Police Districts without any consultation of any type to the detriment of our members.

    Problems on who is to cover which district due to the current lack of staff is already being felt. Our member cannot continue to be treated like numbers and not actual employees who have the right to be consulted on changes which will affect them directly.

    Although this change might have been necessary, you do not implement it when our districts are practically empty, with one Police Sergeant having to cover a whole district, irrelevant of its population and challenges.

    This also applies to District Police Offices where localities have been added with their responsibility, without adding more staff to cater for the demand.

    The Malta Police Force implement changes without first verifying what effect this will have on its members, or if same Police Force is capable of sustaining these commitments.
